Lockii vs Big Rentals/HQRent
HQRent is for yards that still hand the trailer over. Lockii is for yards that want the customer to take it and bring it back with nobody on site. Big Rentals can send you the booking, and they take 20% when they do.
HQRent is Big Rentals' software, and BigRentals.com is the marketplace on the same account. Marketplace bookings pay 20%. You still message the pickup instructions, such as a lockbox code. Plans are $129, $169, and $399 a month plus a $200 setup, with card rates of 4.4%, 3.9%, and 3.4%. Lockii is $12 USD per locked item a month, takes no commission, and the booking opens the lock and confirms the return on GPS. Choose HQRent if handing the trailer over is still how you work. Choose Lockii if that handover is the part you want gone. This page is hqrent.com and Big Rentals, not HQ Rental Software at hqrentalsoftware.com.
Choose Lockii if
You want the pickup and the return handled, so a bigger fleet does not mean more people at the gate.
Choose Big Rentals / HQRent if
You are fine meeting the customer, checking the ID, and handing the trailer over yourself.

How they differ
Where the next booking comes from
Lockii
Lockii is not a marketplace and instead integrates with marketplaces. The booking comes from your site, your ads, or a QR code on the trailer. Payment, the ID check, the lock code, messages, extensions, and the return are all on that order. You deal with the exceptions.
Big Rentals / HQRent
Add a unit in HQRent and it can show up on BigRentals.com. They talk to the renter until you approve or decline. That booking costs you 20%. A booking on your own site does not. You still pay their card rate: 4.4%, 3.9%, or 3.4%, depending on the plan. Worth it if you want the software and a lead channel in one bill.
Get HQRent if Big Rentals sending you jobs is part of why you are paying. Get Lockii if the jobs you already have should run without you.
What the customer does at the yard
Lockii
Once the customer qualifies, Lockii puts a code on the lock for that booking. They hitch up and leave. GPS and return photos close it when the trailer is back. A late unit or a dead lock shows up in the exception inbox. About 96% of Lockii rentals finish with no staff in it.
Big Rentals / HQRent
HQRent gets the signature, license, insurance, and payment done online. Then you text the location, the unit number, and how to get in, often a lockbox code. Their help text says the handoff can be you, a lockbox, or whatever else you pick. GPS there is for seeing the fleet, tracking a delivery, and a route.
HQRent finishes the paperwork and leaves the handoff with you. On Lockii the handoff is the software.
What a month actually costs
Lockii
Lockii is $12 USD per locked item a month. Locations are unlimited, and you do not pay more to add a user. Ten locked units are about $120 before discounts, in the same neighborhood as Essentials, with messages included. Forty are about $480 before discounts, close to Scale, and a direct booking does not pay 20% or their card rate. You pay Stripe's fee yourself.
Big Rentals / HQRent
In October 2026, Essentials is $129 a month for 1 user and 1 location. Growth is $169 for 2 users, 1 location, and a custom website. Scale is $399 for unlimited users and locations. Each plan adds a $200 setup fee. Yearly billing is cheaper on their site (the page says two months free, and the FAQ also says 20% off). Card rates step from 4.4% down to 3.4%. Equipment is unlimited on every plan, which is the cheap way to run a big catalog if most of it does not need a lock. The 20% only hits Big Rentals orders.
HQRent is the smaller software bill when you have a lot of equipment and only a few of them are locked, or when their website and Big Rentals leads earn the plan back. Lockii is the smaller bill when every unit is a locked, direct, after-hours rental.
Who it is for
Choose Lockii
- The lock and the return confirmation are how the yard actually runs
- You want every location and every text included, without jumping to a $399 plan
- Direct bookings are the business, and 20% plus a plan-based card rate does not fit
Choose Big Rentals / HQRent
- You want their website and a Big Rentals listing in the same login
- You deliver, and you care more about routes and fleet GPS than a lock on every unit
- You have a big catalog, and a flat plan with unlimited equipment beats paying per item
Switching to Lockii
- Recreate the equipment, rates, deposits, and locations. Keep Big Rentals as a lead source only if the 20% still pays for itself.
- Point direct bookings at your site, so HQRent is not where those rentals live.
- Add locks and GPS to the units that should go out with nobody there.
- The pickup text with a lockbox code gets replaced by a code tied to the booking.

Yes, if you are comparing rental software. HQRent plus Big Rentals fits if you want their website, delivery tools, and marketplace leads, and you are fine handing the unit over. Lockii fits if a direct booking should unlock the gear and confirm the return with nobody there. This page is HQRent and Big Rentals. It is not HQ Rental Software at hqrentalsoftware.com.
On Big Rentals marketplace bookings, yes. HQRent publishes a 20% commission on those orders. Bookings on your own website are not charged that commission. You still pay their published card rate, which is 4.4%, 3.9%, or 3.4% depending on plan. Lockii takes no booking commission.
HQRent supports finishing the contract, uploads, and payment online, then sending pickup instructions such as a lockbox code. They state that the physical handoff can be staffed or unattended, and that choice is yours. Lockii connects the booking to supported lock hardware and confirms the return with GPS.
At about 10 locked items, Lockii at $12 each lands near HQRent Essentials at $129, before their $200 setup and 4.4% card rate. HQRent is cheaper software if you have lots of equipment and only a few locked units, because the flat plan does not charge per item. Lockii costs less to run when those direct bookings would otherwise pay 20%, a higher card rate, or someone's time at the yard.
Stay if you use the custom website, the Big Rentals leads, and delivery dispatch, and you are fine with a person or a lockbox code at pickup. Move when the yard needs the lock, the ID check, and the return sitting on the booking.
